The story of Hemingway's stay in Acciaroli,which may have inspired him the book "The Old Man and the Sea", has been one of Angelo Vassallo's strong points for the tourist promotion of his village. The First Citizen of Pollica strenuously fought coastal pollution and controlled illegal building from his fishing boat to protect his village. He was able to say "no" when he had to stand strong. And it was one too many "no" that maybe put an end to the life of the Fisherman Mayor. Hemingway's legend must be overlooked now and gives way to the story of the Fisherman Mayor, highlighting his commitment for the "miraculous" change of a village which Hemingway may not like today, especially after Sept. 5,2010.
