“when did we get ice cream ?” always makes me laugh
A comedy that “works”
As stated by the people in charge of special olympics in the special features on the DVD, The name Johnny Knoxville and Farrelly Brothers and special olympics-sounded like something, that if not done right, would really look bad on Knoxville and the Brothers.
The story is fairly simple: Johnny Knoxvilles character named Steve Barker, runs into debt, and the only way he can think of to pay off the debt is to “pretend’ to be handicapped, and win the special olympics. Now, in real life, if this happened, I am sure the perp would be considered a mean person. However—-in The Ringer (which has a combination of real actors with disabilities and actors portraying them), I am pretty sure Jed Rees (AKA Glen) is not disabled in real life, though he does a pretty good impression of Rain man? or someone like that. Anyway, the other characters, actually ARE smarter than Knoxvilles Character, and teach him how to train, run. If this film had been about mocking disabled people, it would have been a huge bomb, but with the people with disabilities (some real, some acting) actually being more clued in than Knoxville-Its magic, it works!
