Oscar, a 68 year old widowed fishmonger, lives in a tiny fishing community. In this community the fishermen are seen as the gladiators of their time, praised for bringing in big hauls and keeping the town thriving. We first meet Oscar in his wild day dreams of acceptance, we are then transported to his mundane job and follows onto his far from sanitary life style. Oscar used to be a professional diver, something which he used to do with his wife. Now he is troubled and has lost faith in the town since the death of his wife yet he longs for acceptance and for a path through his grief. One day a local boy, Nikolas, goes missing, The whole town is tasked to help but Oscar doesn’t feel up to it. The last place for them to search is the river, the town need his help. Being an ex diver Oscar fits the bill perfectly, will he hold off his grievance with the town and finally gain the acceptance he longs for? |
