A virus is unintentionally released upon the United States which causes those infected to wander in a violent mindless delirium after 24 hours of exposure. Designed by a reckless biology major, it was an attempt to create a homemade ‘zombie’ rat. The creator was bitten and as a result the experiment became an epidemic. The epidemic spread across the country and found its way to a Pennsylvania man named Joe who was on his way to work. This is the story of his remaining 24 hours. After being bitten and realizing that he’s infected, Joe decides to go into seclusion to his family’s old hunting cabin. While there, he suffers through the stages of grief in the forms of angrily shooting glass jars, pleading for medical attention on the phone, listing everything he would have liked to do and finally attempts to enjoy his last meal. Throughout his entire ordeal he obsessively stares at the clock counting down the minutes to his almost certain demise. Upon reaching Joe’s 24 hour deadline, he begins to experience delirium and can no longer decipher reality from fantasy. Before the end, Joe’s mind will allow him a moment of clarity to determine the difference
