This story follows three days in the life of Ella identifying the extreme highs and lows of living with a loved one who suffers from an illness they can’t control. Ella has lived with this for as long as she can remember, she has witnessed traumatic times that no fifteen year old should. On top of this, she has to deal with her school work, helping to bring up her two younger brothers and have time to just be Ella. Jane’s illness gets to a point where it is no longer controllable, and quite clearly Ella can’t help anymore. This is where Ella decides to take matters into her own hands, not just for the sake of her and her brothers, but what she deems the right thing to do for her Mother. Conscience is based around raw emotion and truth, it’s a film that will make you question what you would do in Ella’s shoes. There is no identified right or wrong answer, but what would you do in her situation? This film is important to us as we feel that there aren’t enough films that show the plight of the person on the receiving end of someone who suffers from a mental illness. We feel that this subject matter shouldn’t be taboo and hopefully by us making this film we can encourage how serious this issue is in everyday life. |
