Holy Fool is influenced in part by the novel The Idiot by Fydor Dostoyevsky. In a letter Dostoyevsky wrote, that the central idea of The Idiot was; ‘to depict a completely beautiful human being.’ By taking Dostoyevsky’s ‘beautiful human being’ as a starting point, the film imagines the inner psychology of such a Holy Fool. Caught between worlds, the protagonist of this film magnifies and dissolves all what he sees. In doing so, he alters the rhythm and the pace of the world around him. |
