The life of the man that was the undeniable star of bullfighting in the second half of the twentieth century was marked by the trauma of Civil War, the post-war period and the Dictatorship, that sentenced millions of people to misery, illiteracy and emigration. Such was the case of the family of young Manuel Benitez. After a surprising life, ‘El Cordobés’ became the first media bullfighter and an unrepeatable star of the sixties and seventies, the period when Spain began to get acquainted with mass media. In the documentary, through different witnesses, between them Benitez himself, and figures that knew well that period, like writer Dominique Lapierre or journalist Tico Medina, and with exceptional archive footage, the history of Spain is rebuilt from the perspective of the bullring. |
