An indie rock band struggles to satisfy their greedy record label and lives in a recording studio as unwilling stars of a reality television show. The Fireturtles are a band of five dear friends who just finished a grueling international tour and are writing their sophomore album. They feel jammed up when their corporate record label forces them to be filmed 24 hours a day and “sell out” in other embarrassing ways. They rebel by finding inspiration in obscure and outrageous indie bands from the past. They are like a family. Brett Brett does his best to lead the band but often dissolves into fits of tears. Kevin is their genius guitarist who’s drunk all the time. Jason, the drummer, is like the love child of Kramer and Phoebe, with wild hair and eccentric ideas. Casey is the misunderstood, angsty siren who is trapped with a band of smelly dudes. And, Todd, the bass player, is like a sexy goldfish. He will tell a girl he loves her and then forget 11 seconds later. Each week they will face a new challenge to their integrity and find a new obscure indie song from the past that will inspire them to overcome their troubles and then write a new song. This project is based on a live show that has played for three years at Second City Hollywood and the Los Angeles area. It stars the original cast of multi-instrumentalist singer/comedian/actors. The show promises multiple original, satirical songs (including the “historical” ones) per episode and seamlessly transitions between scripted and improvised comedy and music videos. Ultimately, the show is about the love of music and how to be original in an increasingly homogenized and corporate world. |
