Madeline is an eccentric composer in the 1950’s living a solitary life in the deep south. She spends her days teaching music lessons out of her house, and by night she pursues her true passion: writing a grand opus that in her mind is the sum of her life’s work. She’s recruited her students to be a part of the performance, and has singled out one in particular, named Ana, who will have a special solo. Madeline also has a love interest named Daniel, who is from the Louisiana bayou. He comes to visit every blue moon for intense rendezvous. With him she expresses a side of herself that no one else sees. As Madeline’s performance draws near, tensions run high and strange things start to occur. Daniel gives Madeline a magical instrument from New Orleans that once belonged to his estranged aunt now living deep in the Louisiana wetlands. Once she plays the first chord on the instrument, everything she knows to be real becomes a distortion of itself. Madeline moves in and out of her own mind while witnessing things that move her to extreme anger and emotion. Whether or not what she’s experiencing is the truth, it doesn’t prevent the consequences of her actions that soon follow. Madeline’s opus is executed in the grandest fashion. |
