In the Heights centers on a variety of characters living in the neighborhood of Washington Heights, on the northern tip of Manhattan. At the center of the show is Usnavi, a bodega owner who looks after the aging Cuban lady next door, pines for the gorgeous girl working in the neighboring beauty salon and dreams of winning the lottery and escaping to the shores of his native Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, Nina, a childhood friend of Usnavi’s, has returned to the neighborhood from her first year at college with surprising news for her parents, who have spent their life savings on building a better life for their daughter. Ultimately, Usnavi and the residents of the close-knit neighborhood get a dose of what it means to be home.

Great Movie with a mostly positive Rotten Tomatoes Score from both Audience and Critics. Not the best but still pretty good. Didn’t care for the Direction of the movie but the Story itself is great just wish they had a better director. Not as good as the Broadway show but pretty close with just missing a few really important parts to show case including the relationship between Benny and Vanessa instead of just the one scene that is in it. Also the Visuals used in the movie especially from the Song Vanessa sings and the song 96000 kinda hurt my brain with the drawings they used inside the movie definitely could have done without those.
In the Heights Will Be In Theaters AND on HBO Max on Friday, June 11th, 2021.
Best movie musical since Hamilton! So much energy and positivity, all the leads are great, feel-good summer movie.
It was fun and a heart warming story line….but hardly the “greatest movie of the millennium” shite ! I think the marketing team for this movie has hailed it to be something between Grease and West Side Story…and its not ! 5/10
Oh come on. I loved Grease as a kid but it’s a shallow little movie about high school love. It’s not a masterpiece by any standard.
In the Heights was much better on stage but it’s still in another league compared to Grease (and again I love Grease, I just see it for what it is)
Not even getting into West Side Story because it’s unfixable.
Just because I typed the word Grease, doesn’t mean I dislike it. For its era..Grease was phenomenal ! But this is tripe .
The difficulty with rap is that it’s always voiced in a monotone and tossed out so quickly that most of the time one loses the humor and, for that matter, the point. The dancing, something I know a lot about, is repetitive. It is nothing like the stage show. No musical translated to the screen ever is. The stage presentation is always superior. Credit to Miranda for what he has accomplished but, sadly, it falls far below what everyone hoped it would be.
Agreed. I think they tried their best but the stage version was just so superior, it makes me feel bad for the movie. Some of the cast is just not up to the task and the feeling is just off.
