‘La Patrie (Homeland)’ is a tale of searching for one’s roots. How can we define our roots; our homeland? Is it the country in which we were born, or the place in which we live or work? Or where our parents were born? Even the dictionary cannot define it precisely. So the confusion and its individual perspectives remain constant. Ani, a girl from Armenia, comes to France in search of her roots. Her parents were from France but they moved to Armenia years ago. Through her journey, Ani crosses paths with Jonathan, a boy living in France but who is originally from England. Then she meets Varzu, a girl living in France, whose mother is Dutch and dad is German. She was born in Spain. Finally, Ani meets Ganga. Ganga is from India, but he has travelled extensively. From India he went to Bangadesh, then Australia, New Zealand and finally ended up France. Ganga is like a river, he doesn’t believe in geographical boundaries. When Ani and Ganga meet, Ani’s idea of homeland and roots changes completely. |
