The meaning of family in American society today has come a long way since its ideals were molded into the concept of the nuclear family. At times nuanced and at times controversial, there have been undeniable shifts in defining, or more accurately deconstructing what a modern family means. This documentary, aimed at understanding what its like to be an interracial adoptive family, follows three families who adopted baby girls from China. They reveal the challenges of ‘looking different’, the value of always being truthful and open to each other, and the ability to come together to a place they call home, no matter what. Their stories have come to be an expression of familial bonds that transcends traditional constructs by blood, race, or even national origin. |
