Captain Haddock, a detective from the Bunco Squad, recounts what is referred to as “The Case of the Gullible Woodpecker”. Woody has just inherited a large sum of money from an unspecified individual, and confidence man Buzz Buzzard enacts an elaborate scheme to steal all of Woody’s money which involves luring Woody to a deserted island with the promise of buried treasure and making him pay ludicrous amounts of money for petty items like keys. All the while, the Captain follows the two, continually remarking to the audience, “If Woody had gone right to the police, this would never have happened.” |
