Instead, the handsome but indecisive man seems overly attached to haughty Aunt Marietta, who, of course, opposes their union. Then, the benevolent, kind-hearted, and self-made shipowner, Captain Nikolas, returns to his hometown of Argostoli bearing gifts, and, intent on marrying beautiful Froso, she proposes; however, even though she likes him, she is still in love with Panagis who keeps going back and forth between missing her and avoiding her.
