The film entitled, Pou yon Ayiti Souvren (For a Sovereign Haiti), follows the testimony of university students of the University of Haiti (UEH) as they describe the ways in which the international communities’ failure to respect the sovereignty of Haiti contributes to the country’s failure to respect human rights in Haiti. The challenges that Haiti and its citizens face are daunting, yet, as this documentary shows, the commitment and dedication of the students is inspiring. Sovereignty, their chosen focus, identifies the foundation by which society is built. For without sovereignty, one cannot even begin to discuss human rights. Without self-determination there can be no justice. |
