Hope Johnson is a talented girl with dreams to become a professional writer. She enters her submission to a Pen pal organization funded by her school in Atlanta. She is selected and assigned to write a teen aged boy from Miami named Joaquin Santiago. After a month of conversing, they exchange poems, love letters and their daily adventures; fusing their relationship perfectly. Meanwhile, Hope and Joaquin fall in love. After a while, Joaquin goes silent making him uncommunicative. Hope is then worried and additionally offended, leading her to write Joaquin a goodbye letter, assuring herself that she shall never write him again. At random, Hope’s brother Yasha receives an email from Joaquin, revealing his relocation to Atlanta and his desires to arrange a surprise party for Hope with Yasha’s help. Soon after, Yasha happily invites Hope on an outing. She is then escorted to the party scene and beheld by her family, friends and most of all, her distant admirer, Joaquin.
