‘Affect’ is a stylishly surrealistic non-linear comedy about a manic depressive’s experience of psychosis as she shops around for a therapist. Mania and a psychotic voice, which often manifests itself as clownlike, mischievous presence, continually interfere with, interrupt and sabotage the woman’s attempts to communicate with therapist after therapist. The movie is composed of interwoven monologues with a scratchy, circa 1920s Blues song as a musical theme. |
