15 soldiers from the French Marine appear at the start of Evaluation Course 123, aspiring to become marine commandos with the right to wear green berets. The French Special Forces consist of 2000 soldiers of which 450 belong to the Green Berets. The marine commandos are small units, which carry out extremely difficult missions behind the enemies’ front line. Their tasks include sabotage, infiltration of enemies, release of hostages, capture of perpetrators of war crimes, evacuation of French citizens in need. The first group of French Green Berets was set up by Lieutenant Philippe Kieffer in Scotland during World War II. His methods of evaluation and selection of new commandos are still in use. For nine weeks the new aspirants undergo an extremely hard training, physically and mentally, day and night - in the air, on the ground and under water. The weakest are taken away quickly. Already after two weeks only 10 aspirants remain. After seven weeks of further hard training they receive their green berets at a ceremonial. |
