When Ayr cinema introduces digital projectors Bill, a 70-year-old projectionist, is told he has 2 weeks left. He feels useless until Robert, a friend from his youth, moves to his street. Bill finds some old footage of him and his late wife, and decides to make a film with Robert. Things get worse at the cinema, but Bill begins to feel less afraid of redundancy. However, Roberts family are forced to relocate again, leaving Bill more alone than ever. He soon realizes his obsession with the past doesn’t mean he’ll diminish, so by swiftly hijacking a cinema screen Bill shows footage of his wife ranting ‘old is better than new’ and ends his career as a sad, old, projectionist and starts life a happy man. |
