A man lives alone in a mobile home in a mountain setting. What he knows about the world around him he learns from television programs that frighten him with imaginary dangers, and give him a fear of birds. In his efforts to maintain a perfect lawn, he poisons the birds that kept hoards of insects away. Bugs invade his home, commandeer his appliances, and wreak havoc with a satellite, inviting a military response. His trailer confiscated, he is billeted at a resort where he meets a Sherpa-like individual who reveals a sinister plot masterminded by a giant bug. The duo fights back, breaking the bank at the hotel casino. They free the Forest Bird, who in turn carries them to safety and a new beginning.
