This documentary short tells the tale of the women of Zapotitlan Palmas, Oaxaca, Mexico. While their husbands work in the U.S., they spend their days weaving intricate straw handbags to supplement their income. These beautiful bags represent their community at the same time hindering their personal progress. It takes half the day to make one, which will only sell for 20 pesos ($1.50), barely enough for food for the day. Without an alternative, they hold on to their art passing it on to new generations. |
