Something between Slavic fairy tale, Nosferatu and Zeman’s Krabat. Quite interesting take on vampire story.

& yet sounds like one of Dr Who’s worst adversaries had sex with a vorlon from a different universe🤣

BubbaPharm.com 1 points 7 months ago*. 3/5 stars.

Got this off the interwebs:

“According to legend, a Vourdalak is the reanimated corpse of a deceased person who returns to prey upon their own family members and loved ones. Unlike traditional vampires who may target strangers or anyone within reach, the Vourdalak specifically haunts and terrorizes those it once held dear in life.”

My take: Vampires who only bite the ones they love.

You are right! It is not definitely your typical vampyr. Thanks for the info :)

The family entanglements gave this a different angle than your typical vampire film. I also liked the choice of using marionette effects and trippy eyes. For jaded vampire lovers, some may find this version refreshing. Who can’t relate to having a blood sucking relative? :-)

Overall, though, I enjoyed this more for it’s uniqueness than it’s structure. 3/5

One of these reimaginings that I really did like was “Under The Skin”, with Scarlett Johansson. It’s a very slow burn and surreal take on, “What if vampires were not from this world?”

FYI: Many people strongly disliked the lack of dialogue and slow pace in “Under The Skin”. It also has bizarre surreal scenes surrounding the entrapment of its prey. On the other hand, I found it a great midnight movie with a little “mother’s helper”. So be warned, it’s nearly all pure experience with nearly no narration.

I loved Under The Skin & watched it 3 times, once w/the director’s commentary which is on the special edition version of the dvd. It was fascinating to hear his BTS take on it & I think Scarlett participated too which was fascinating to hear from her perspective. Knowing the director’s previous work (he’s done some pretty wild music videos that are now classics & it prompted me to watch this). Once I watched the director’s commentary I was inspired to read the book. The movie lifts pretty faithfully from the book but there are large parts that it leaves out which go into futher explanation of the alien’s thinking. It filled in a lot of the sequences in the movie for me. The director said he wanted to leave those parts out in order that he could have more artistic license w/the visuals, leaving it to viewer interpretation which I personally appreciated. I don’t need everything spelled out for me & like to work out my own interpretations. I even own the dvd which is stored away somewhere.
