Jane Birkin died just a few months ago this year in July. She was the mom of Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lou Doillon & Kate Barry, the sweetheart of director Serge Gainsbourg & composer John Barry, the daughter of actress Judy Campbell (from a long line of actors) and the sibling of Andrew, David & Anno.
No one knows how she died. She was just found dead at home. She’s a pretty big deal with a life time of singing, acting & modeling.
This is regarded as one of her top films along with Kaleidoscope, Je t’aime Moi Non Plus & Death On The Nile. Another is Don Juan, or If Don Juan Were a Woman. where she was the lover of Brigitte Bardot, another lover of Gainsbourg. Serge died in in 1991. Jane made a doc about him with Bardot called Gainsbourg, Toute Une Vie.
A good doc about her was done a couple years ago by daughter Charlotte, called Jane By Charlotte. Petula Clark also did a doc called Je t’aime: The Story of French Song which features Jane prominently. Jane… Mother Of All Babes is a good 2003 doc about her.
Jane Birkin. Charlotte Gainsbourg. Lou Doillon.
Thanks doll! I’m going to check out those documentaries. I loved her in La Belle Noiseuse.
Ooo yeah, that’s Rivette with Emmanuelle Beart who shares her birthday with Steve Martin & Mila Kunis. She’s 60 now but was 28 then. Like Birkin, she’s quite the legend!
I never could believe that she married Daniel Auteuil. I just haven’t ever been able to forgive his character for what he did to hers in Manon of the Spring!
Stains on the memory does make it a wee bit odd to accept! Method actors, you know?!
Indeed! Not to mention they were an…um…INTERESTING-looking match.
Very! Daniel was with Emmanuelle as well as Marianne Denicourt, both in La Belle Noiseuse with Birkin. He has kids with each actress.
