Inspired by true events. Jenny (Anna Schafer) is a hospital PR manager assigned to write an article about child abuse after a young boy named Billy (Leo Marz) is airlifted to the hospital, having been beaten into a coma, presumably by his stepfather, Thomas (Chase Williamson). To help her get a personal take on the story, Jenny is further assigned to be Billy’s “auntie” as part of an in-hospital guardian program for children without relatives in the area. Encouraged by her friend, Sallie (Tamlyn Tomita), to lean into this opportunity, Jenny begins to feel a maternal connection with Billy the more time she spends with him. When Thomas sneaks into Billy’s hospital room, Jenny questions him about how Billy ended up in the hospital. Thomas reveals that Billy’s mother, Rachel (Augie Duke), is unstable and beat him. Once Billy wakes up, he confirms his stepdad’s story. Determined to seek justice, Jenny risks everything to prove Rachel is an unfit mother and protect Billy. |
