Kate Garraway is a presenter on Britain’s morning news show, Good Morning Television (GMTV). She documents her life as she deals with the harrowing effect of her husband, Derek Draper, falling into a coma after coronavirus invades his body and leaves him confined to a hospital bed completely reliant on the support system which allows him to breathe, eat and survive. This is a remarkable testament to their love and is intensely personal without being mawkish - she demonstrates great resilience, courage and humour as he gradually is able to communicate in brief moments which allow for real hope to emerge. There is no better documentary out there which provides an insight into what it means to cope with such a devastating outcome while also running a home with two children, holding down a high profile job and maintaining inner strength to spark whatever flicker of chance there is that Derek can return home and resume life with his family. Heartbreaking and inspiring while also opening a window into the horror so many thousands are confronting in the world right now. |
