Man, that was much more intense, much more insightful than I ever thought it would be. In a nutshell it was pretty brilliant. There was so much to be digested and given to us in what was setup as a very realistic argument. Thoughts on just relationships themselves, masculinity, drug use, the film industry, being black. Hats off to writers and directors because I would say that was an excellent portrayal of what it means to be an actual black couple in conversation verses what we might usually get in some Hollywood cliched project. I honestly feel the reception to this film would have been much different and there would have been less backlash about age difference if Zendaya had been paired with a white male lead for this film, but for me her and John David Washington knocked it out of the park. I am pretty sure this will be a lot less interesting to those who don’t subscribe to show don’t tell way of writing. Which is something very hard to do with so much dialogue but they pulled it off very well. And the back and forth was great but I have to say that in the end she won that hands downs, her last monologue made this film and I almost wanted to agree with some critics that it was to long because there is a nice little point mid film where they sit pool side smoking a cigarette and listening to music that could have bee a great placed to end it about an hour in, but after her last speech at the very end I have to say the run time was right on point and the film overall was great. 5 of 5 from me.
This was a 2 hour horror show…one big argument with no major storyline and no major setting. ending was very horrible leaving you to figure out the unknow.
