We don’t know anything about PEDRO CAVEIRA : who he is or where he comes from. He’s lonely and cold. In all respects, it gives the impression of wandering.
PEDRO would like to understand why and how cinema awakens feelings that he never meets in real life. He wants to unlock the secrets of cinema. To better understand the mechanics of cinema, he decides to make a film, without knowing exactly how to go about it. All he has is a camera.
He meets different filmmakers and asks for their help. He claims he has a scenario. All take him for an oddball and decline the proposal. All, except AYA. She’s a first time filmmaker. Both intrigued and touched by PEDRO’s determination, she agrees to help him.
AYA explains to PEDRO that the power of cinema is first and foremost the role of the actors. She says that the actor’s mere presence provides and brings up a whole universe. She quotes a name as an example: Vincent CASSEL. PEDRO takes everything she says literally. The name of the famous actor becomes for him an object of fixation; he wants it in his casting.
AYA and PEDRO start actor’s auditions. The project is set in complete destitution to the point where the castings take place in the street. Moreover, PEDRO agrees to unveil the scenario only in a parsimonious way, one scene a day, as if he wrote it as and when.
AYA discovers that PEDRO is a homeless person and that he’s convinced of being an alien, coming from outer space. To make matters worse, he looks very sick. Working conditions and PEDRO’s blurry personality put AYA’s will to the test. She wonders what she let herself into, she goes through all kinds of emotional states.
During the auditions, a second story takes shape : the story of the characters developed by the “scenario” of PEDRO : a certain NED and his wife LUCINDA (played by the actors).
During an audition, an actress realizes that the text given to her reminds her verbatim of the dialogue of a film she has already seen. For AYA, it’s the ice-cold shower. She feels betrayed. Nevertheless, she continues the project.
PEDRO is getting worse and worse. Before the last casting, he disappears and gives no news. AYA must finish the project alone.
