5 Stars. Jennifer Hudson knocks it out of the park. And Marc Maron as Jerryy Wexler was classic. And I love how they showed a clip of Aretha in her later
yyears during the credits so everyone could see how her immense talent was still there right up until the end.
It says it will be released in Aug in the USA. Pretty excited about this one.
contain spoilers… Jennifer Hudson does a wonderful job in this, great acting and singing. However the plot has a lot of holes a lot of open ended scenes, where you are left to fill in the gaps. One very strange sequence shows her pregnant as a child, without explanation. Was that a dream, or did I miss something? I know she was getting night visits from a creep, yet did that result in a pregnancy? Also I dont know if she had kids or not, that wasnt clear either, yet every now and then she would drop kids off at her dads house. I did enjoy the film for Hudsons performance, apart from that very flimsy….V
If you want more info about Aretha watch the series Genius: Aretha. It is the same story but it goes into more details from when she was younger all the way to the moment when aretha franklin stepped in for pavarotti to sing Nessun Dorma.
Cool thanks for that….V
She gave birth to her 1st son, Clarence, at 12 years of age :/
yeah cause she was molested by that creeper nd if I was the Minister he defo woulda caught a bullet….V
That ‘Aint no way ‘ scene was soooo beautiful
After watching Nat Geo, and hearing all the hype prior to this release; I am underwhelmed. This may have The Queen of Souls blessing but I did not move me.
The movie absolutely fell short… The J.Hudd and M.Wayans, their acting wasn’t the bast… maybe it was the accents but it just didn’t connect. Also the character arc was not well done maybe it was the editing but i still enjoyed it enough to leave a review 3/5 stars
Respect Will be In Theaters on Friday, Aug. 13th, 2021.
I watched this today and I thought I was going to love it but it fell short in my humble opinion. To each his own. I will always love Aretha’s music no matter what though.
No one does Aretha better than, Aretha. Jennifer Hudson, did a phenomenal job with the singing, but the acting…was not her best.
The biopic felt ‘rushed’. No heart or soul was fully put into this film. Sure, I enjoyed the songs…After all it was ‘RE-RE’. Would love to see the directors cut(full version). I bet there’s more depth within the scenes that made the cutting room floor.
Jennifer Hudson was fire! There is nobody else who can powerfully perform the Queen of Soul like Hudson can, and she did it so precisely, so brilliantly in this movie. 10 stars!!
