The Juneau Icefield located in Southeast Alaska is home to visually stunning, untouched, and pristine mountain and ice landscapes. Aperture Of Ice starts by introducing the coastal mountains of the Juneau Icefield which along with all of Alaska’s coastal mountains are losing approximately 24 cubic miles of ice annually to climate change. The ice climbing and ski mountaineering to access these areas in this film provide insight for viewers to experience firsthand a world that is changing rapidly before our eyes. Alan Gordon, an avalanche forecaster and adventure filmmaker, and Jamie Pierce, an IFMGA Mountain & Ski Guide and researcher, have unique skill sets that allow them to study the ever changing climate on the icefield year round. This is critical in understanding the broad global implications that are a result of sea level rise and climate shifts from melting glaciers around the world. |
