A dying man commits his son to the care of his brother, who, however, robs the child and turns him adrift. Having got possession of all the money he gloats over it miser-like. While engaged in doing so, the apparition of his dead brother comes to him, and at the same time he sees in a vision his little nephew destitute in the streets. The boy, however, is rescued by kindly cottagers. There is a lapse of 15 years, and now we see the boy in the army. The uncle in his old age has become dissolute. The apparition of his dead brother comes to him, once again, and the wicked man is conscience stricken. At this moment the apparition reappears, and then the tangible corporality of the soldier boy who claims the money that was stolen from him. This the uncle restores, and the film ends by the boy forgiving him. |
