Parfenov’s documentary for the centenary of the great Russian and American classic. It consists of stories told by people who knew Vladimir Nabokov very well: Elena Nabokova-Sikorskaya, “beloved sister of beloved brother” as Nabokov called her, and Dmitry, Nabokov’s son. Nabokov was a bilingual genius of two literatures, which is an exceptional phenomenon. The film was shot at Cornell University, where Nabokov lectured for a long time as an American professor of Russian literature, in the St. Petersburg mansion, in the Rozhdestveno estate, the place of the writer’s happy childhood, and in his hotel suite in the Swiss town of Montreux, where Nabokov spent the last sixteen years of his live. |
