In HANK’n BARRY we collide into there colorless Los Angelenos, Barry, Lindsay, and Hank. In true Los Angeles fashion, these three should have something going for themselves career-wise, but…well…don’t. Barry is an almost failed actor (who just hasn’t quite made it yet), Lindsay is a grandiose veterinarian assistant, and Hank is our slothful mechanic, who just sort of exists in the same building as Barry and Lindsay. The false story arch follows the actor, Barry, as he chases his creative dreams- but at his age, he’s running out of steam, not to mention dignity! The actual arch of the season follows Hank, the blue collar mechanic. He is that guy who’s always got a guy. He always knows somebody or something that is the answer to your problems. He constantly schemes with yet another get rich quick idea though most of his scheming doesn’t get him too far from his couch or his television set. Lindsay is our overly self-important veterinarian’s assistant. A fitting description for here is ‘Pam’ from Archer meets Seinfeld’s George Kastanza. She’s unknowingly selfish with good intentions. But at her core she is simply a fat, neurotic mess who is her own worst enemy. Unfortunately, she also happens to be the brains of the bunch. Character types for Barry are Jason Bateman meets Jerry Seinfeld. Hank the mechanic is lost somewhere between Bill from King of the Hill and Teddy from Bob’s Burgers. The tone of the show is South Park meets Bob’s Burgers in a three-camera sitcom format. |
