Juan Galan, Jackie Marte, and José Nicolau, are three poverty-stricken welfare-recipients whose negative experiences with New York’s controversial Work Experience Program (WEP) rouses them to social and political activism. The documentary visits Galan, Marte, and Nicolau at various times from 1997 to 2000, during which time they organize, interviewed, and educated WEP workers, while championing two key pieces of legislation affecting the lives of thousands of impoverished New Yorkers. |
