Fiestas de Santa Fe is a 300 year old celebration of the reconquest of New Mexico by Conquistador Don Diego de Vargas following the Pueblo Uprising of 1680. Each year at Fiesta, Zozobra - Old Man Gloom: a fifty foot tall marionette - is filled with hand-written notes from people all over the world, detailing their worries and troubles of the past year, and then he is burned in an act of sacred violence, dispelling their gloom. |
