Colin Daniels is a private detective, and a good one. But his work solving murders has become frustrating as he feels bringing the guilty to justice doesn’t make up for the loss of their victim’s life. Then he meets Bridget McCarthy, the sincere wife of local club owner Phil McCarthy. Bridget is convinced that Phil is cheating on her and possibly plotting her murder this spurs Colin into action, hoping that this time he can stop someone from dying. Colin seeks out Phil at his club- The Abandon Ship. While there, he meets Daisy Donnelly, a singer. They begin flirting before Phil arrives and reveals that Daisy is his girlfriend - confirming Bridget’s suspicions. Phil is possessive of Daisy and Colin leaves the club. Through his narration, Colin states his intent to sleep with Daisy before this case is done. Upon returning to the bar, Colin watches Daisy sing and they begin flirting again. Daisy reveals that Phil is abusive, but she puts up with it because he’s going to be coming into a lot of money soon and she is confident Phil will spend it on her. Relying on her resentment toward Phil and her love of expensive things, Colin gets Daisy into his bed. The next day, Colin - fixated on Daisy’s claim of Phil coming into money - stakes out Phil and Bridget’s house. Phil pulls a gun on Bridget but before he can complete his crime, Colin bursts in and engages Phil in a shootout. Phil runs out of ammunition and as a desperate ploy, takes Bridget hostage with the empty gun, hoping to disarm Colin. Colin steps out and lays his gun on the floor whereupon Daisy appears and holds it to Colin’s head. Colin reveals that he slept with Daisy and this is enough to send Phil into jealous rage. Phil throws Bridget and his gun to the floor and tries to strangle Daisy, but Colin gets his gun back and shoots Phil three times in the chest - killing him. After arresting Daisy, Colin turns to Bridget and says she should come along for the ride. The story ends with Colin’s narration wrapping up the case and telling the audience that what happened between Bridget and him is up to their imagination.
