In 2011, a team of British astronomers and NASA were able to measure and record ‘music’ that was being emitted by a black hole in a galaxy 250 million light years from Earth. The black hole was creating a sound in the range of B-flat, but the frequency of the sound is so low that it cannot be heard with the human ear. This discovery is the inspiration for BLACK HOLE MUSIC, a short experimental film that imagines the effects of a black hole’s gravity on light and sound waves. The film originates on 35mm celluloid and features a unique light painting technique developed by the filmmaker. |
