In the wake of Idi Amin’s reign of terror, Bena and Indra Patel seek refuge and a new life in Canada. Needing money to feed their family, Bena ventures into the Farmer’s Market with her delicious homemade samosas. The townspeople are not ready to accept this woman who looks so different in their very white world. They are suspicious of her and her food. Bena does not give up. Through hard work, perseverance, a bit of luck, and the open-mindedness of a few citizens, Bena’s samosas become the talk of the town. The years pass and Bena’s business grows. Competition arrives. In one short generation, the Farmer’s Market has become a mecca of multicultural cuisine, thanks to the perseverance of the Patels. |
