The Europe in Crisis - A Shattered Haven is a documentary that exposes the threats affecting Europe today, namely the Islamist extremists committing terrorist attacks on European soil, the worrying rise of antisemitism throughout the continent, and the far-right gaining popularity and political power. This film looks at the consequences for Europe’s minorities, with a focus on Jewish Communities that have recently been the target of deadly terror attacks in Brussels, Paris and Copenhagen. We meet a Jewish family leaving France, a man who survived a terror attack, an ex-Islamist extremist as well as Ministers and civil society leaders that are fighting intolerance and violent extremism. The film emphasizes the warning signs to which some European leaders turned a blind eye. The Jewish communities have been targets for years and as a consequence they are leaving in large numbers. The increase in refugees pouring into Europe has increased violence and intolerance to Muslim communities. The documentary is supported by archive footage and features interviews conducted by Stephen Sackur, BBC Hard Talk host, with experts, politicians, European citizens and representatives of different communities who shared their testimonies and analysis following the recent tragic events. |
