Long Live Norma Jean Mortensen born a Gemini on June 1st 1926, died in Leo on August 4th 1962. Her greatest role ever was that of the character she invented for her persona known as Marilyn Monroe.
Beautiful Norma Jean. This last movie showed her raw talent and terribly mistreated heart.
Thanks for the reminder of this film. For as hard as it was for Huston to make, it’s a classic that still holds up for everyone who was in it, especially the two stars for whom it was their last. Although for Marilyn, there was at least the unfinished 1962 remake of My Favorite Wife called Something’s Gotta Give. Will make a post for that soon.

Eli Wallach and Thelma Ritter were superb. I watched this film many times beginning at a young age. The older I became the harder it was to watch it knowing there were no advocates for those poor horses. I still love Clark Gable to death.
Right on. Love them in this, but you’re right. It’s hard to watch. The old way of making films was great, but also dismal in the area that you point out.
It’s meant to be dismal. That’s the story overall. Hopelessness, unrequited, no safety, nothing to hold onto and the discarding of anything perceived to be useless or old. A hard watch, that maybe more people should see. Then again, who knows if those who discard and weigh in on only what is “picture perfect” would have any capacity to understand at all. Thanks for the recommendation on My Favourite Wife and Something’s Gotta Give. I knew about that situation, but the reminder was what I needed to get it from the storage files of my brain! haha (ˊᗜˋ)/ᵗᑋᵃᐢᵏ ᵞᵒᵘ*
Thumbs up! Sometimes that’s how the grey matter works =P
Totally agree, but the brutality is part and parcel of the story. It is about casual destruction and torture as well as casting away what is perceived as old. It’s hard to watch, but it’s meant to be, in my opinion. Clark Gable was phenomenal in this as well, thanks for the reminder.
Lucky you! Anyone remember the old Three Stooges bit? NIiiiagara FAaallls! Slowly I turn! Step by step! Inch by inch! And besides… Niagara Falls is where Tesla had his triumph over Edison & AC conquered DC. It’s a magical place.
That’s the bomb! When we lived in Colorado Springs, we were determined to find the place where he did his research for wireless transmission that JP Morgan shut down, but didn’t find it.
The precise place is disputed, but there’s a marker & museum. The guy needs a Rushmore sized monument though. If not for him & Hedy Lamar, the world we live in would not exist. Not the way we currently know. Schoolkids by age 6 need to know how BIG they are.
We love that Stooges bit. It permeated their lifetime of sketches, those vaudeville nuts! (Moe, Larry, the cheese! Moe, Larry, the cheese! hahaha)
You remember! Muah!
cool, old black and white flick :)
Last movie of Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe—-She especially had aged terribly in this picture
Clark Gable had a heart attack 2 days after filming had ended. He wasn’t young and the physical demands on him put a tole on his heart. And then Marilyn wasn’t easy to work with either. Don’t get me wrong, she was talented but could be difficult on the set.
