In 1881, a mysterious serial killer known as Malachai Logan, stalks the American Southwest, savagely killing everyone in his path. When he kills the wrong people, Wade Bannock, a famous gunman who had disappeared some twelve years before, returns from exile to hunt the killer down and destroy him. Along the way, he is joined by 17-year old Etta Taylor, the only person who can identify Logan; Billy Caulder, a young gunman out to test himself against Bannock, along with his sidekick, Clevis, and eventually, Teach Conley, a town marshal and a former acquaintance of Bannock during the Civil War. By the end, the ones that remain must engage in a live or die struggle with this monster, Logan, in rugged, unforgiving country.
