Would we consider death to be permanent if the essence (the consciousness) of our loved ones could live on forever? ‘Memorial,’ our 26-minute short feature, follows Dan Marks, a young entrepreneur who helps people record their memories in order to share them with loved ones. After Dan’s fiancee, Liz, is suddenly taken from him, his techno-savant business partner adapts their ‘cerebral indexing’ technology to bring her back to ‘life.’ As news of the Artificial Intelligence becomes public, Dan is caught between reuniting with Liz and answering questions of morality and humanity. ‘Memorial’ aims to challenge the accepted understanding of the tragic loss of loved ones. If the essence of a loved one remains after her death, have we really lost anything at all? |
