Two environmental educators based in Santa Barbara cultivate kids’ natural intelligence by cutting them loose in the natural world. A grandmother working at a natural history museum acts a pied piper for 40,000 kids a year and an environmental educator, working for a wilderness youth program, shepherds kids after school to glorious wild places. We also see him accompany his daughter, for three years, as the natural world is clearly making her brain and body work wonders. Along with a sense of belonging to the world, all the children revel in the feeling of being ‘free and alive.’
