Physician Edmund Stewart is devastated when his rich society fiancée, Emily Thurstn, dumps him and marries a wealthy stockbroker, Benson Heath. He gives up his practice, moves out to the countryside and becomes a hobo. Emily’s father later dies and leaves her no money; broke, the couple move to an isolated home in the country to escape demanding creditors. Matters deteriorate quickly, and when Heath’s dead body is found in the house one night with an unconscious Emily next to him, suspicion for the murder falls on her. |
