‘Our Lady of Holyoke’ is a comedy about three kids in a Catholic school in 1964 who create a fake miracle—an appearance by the Virgin Mary—to spoof an old nun for her detention cruelties. The ‘miracle’ succeeds beyond their wildest dreams, with religious pilgrims journeying to the site. Two of the kids want to reveal their prank, because they are certain that another nun is on to them. In a rite of passage twist at the end, the Virgin Mary does appear to the kids and they come to appreciate the power of faith. However, the final event is left open ended and there is a hint that it may indeed be retaliation by the other nun, who has left the convent over the event.
