Dog Walsh, an apathetic man of routine living in a world much like himself, wakes one morning with a strange memory, and a feeling, about Katherine, an employee at his local laundromat. Without understanding what he has seen, he compulsively attempts to make contact, and she, believing him insane, calls the police. He lands himself in the hands of a doctor and a traveling projectionist who explain to him the nature of his very rare and dangerous affliction: He has had a dream. They promise they can save him by extracting it, but Dog has glimpsed the possibility of something no one else has yet imagined. Can he show Katherine what it is that he’s discovered, or will he have to remove his dream to escape the pain of being alone with it? In the end, Dog is a story about love and the possibility of its wondrous beauty and terrible pain. |
