Every day I ride the CTA from Uptown to West Garfield Park and back. I think the things I see can only exist in the same city if they are separated by ample time and space. However, that time and space is compressed within my memory and mixed with other thoughts and memories. This compression of time and space within memory, which draws attention to inequality, is what I try to bring out with this piece. I compress my commute from a high school on the West Side from over an hour to fourteen minutes. A voice over represents some of my memories of my own experiences and what I know of my students’ experiences. |
