A haunting and epic dramatic short film starring downtown New York City icon Sophia Lamar, touching on preconceived ideas of genders and sexual expectations and stereotype. A documentation of a personal performance piece in which a ghostly Sophia wanders the streets of desolate New York City like a blank white canvas yearning for a gender identity. Various appearances flicker in, painting a different personality based on appearance alone, bringing to mind the concept of tabula rasa. The voice-over is derived from an excerpt of Walt Whitman’s ‘Leaves of Grass.’ Musical score by John Contreras, an American cellist best known for his work with Current 93 and Marc Almond. |
