Redefining The Word is a documentary that explores the generational use and viewpoints of the use of the “N-word” within Black America. We ask questions regarding who can use the word, what influences the use of the word, how the meaning of the word has changed (or if it has changed at all), and what are people’s overall feelings towards the use of the word. While this documentary focuses on all of these questions and more, the backbone and overall theme that drives this topic is the focus of the history behind the word. What is the history behind the usage and meaning of the word “Nigger”, how and why did the word “Nigga” formulate, and do the people who use the word really know the true meaning and overall history behind a derogatory and demeaning word.
