When Herd, a brash and spoiled twenty-something guy challenges his friends to a car race he swaps his Ferrari for their old rattletrap and remains certain of his victory nevertheless. With his girlfriend in the shotgun seat, he embarks on a frantic race against time and through off road trails. As he plunges his car into the depths of a river, his girlfriend manages to drag herself ashore, weakened but alive. She keeps looking out for Herd, but can’t find him. Unbeknownst and even impossible for her to perceive though, Herd emerges from the river too. Lost and all alone at night, he staggers through the dark woods. After a brief encounter with the ferry man, he learns that he needs to have some money to be able to pay the ferry man for his way home. Herd continues strolling until he comes upon a cave that leads him to an underground casino crowded by tortured souls. Herd starts to gamble.
