Details:

For more than two decades, Nobel Peace nominee Dr Hawa Abdi sheltered 90,000 Somali refugees during the long civil war. In spite of the pain endured since the loss of her son, her faith in humanity has not diminished. Raised in Canada, Ilwad Elman was 7 when her father was assassinated for rescuing child soldiers from the streets. Barely 19, she returned to Mogadishu to continue his work. After witnessing the destruction of Somaliland, former First Lady Edna Adan Ismail returned to Hargeisa rebuild a health care system out of the rubble. ‘Through the Fire’ is a story of zeal, compassion and resilience. It shows how three extraordinary women helped hold their country together in its darkest hour. When the world abandoned them and their communities, they refused to give up or walk away.
